The supramolecular structure of a three-layer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film of polyimide prepolymer - polyamic acid alkylammonium salt with tertiary amine multichains (PAAS) and corresponding polyimide has been studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The prepolymer was synthesized on the basis of 3,3',4,4'-diphenyltetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and o-tolidine with tert-amine o,o',o''-trihexadecanoyltriethanolamine.
AFM data showed that the LB film of salt polyamic acid consists of two-dimensional domains. In the film of salt, consisting of three layers, found one-, two-and three-layer domains in which the aliphatic chain tertiary amine are oriented perpendicular to the substrate. Analysis of AFM images of the films showed that the formation of the LB film occurs by successive layer deposition on a substrate of two-dimensional domains. As a result, the film formed the bulk domains, representing a stack of two-dimensional domain, whose height is determined by the number of layers in the stack, and aggregates consisting of randomly distributed two-dimensional domains. Since the transport coefficient of salt PAA monolayers on the substrate is unity, it indicates a complete transfer of the monolayer from water surface to the substrate. This fact shows that the observed uneven distribution of domains is likely due to redistribution and aggregation of domains as the compression of a monolayer in transferring him from the water surface to the substrate in the meniscus and deposition. As a result, the film becomes uneven. It can be assumed that two-dimensional domains are formed during the formation of monolayer on the surface of PAA salt water due to intra-and intermolecular interactions of macromolecular chains and side groups containing long aliphatic multichains. This conclusion is confirmed by the fact that an increase in surface pressure in the monolayer domain size decreases and the density of their location in the film increases. AFM images of polyimide films obtained by thermal imidization LB films of prepolymer shows that the supramolecular structure inherits the domain structure of the PAAS film. And inherits not only their size, but typical of the uneven distribution of salt PAC domains in the film. However, unlike the salt PI domains are oriented in one direction.
